Little Shop of Knowledge
"This chapter exposes how despite having the best technology systems so far in history, humanity is barely communicating. People from every corner of the world are able to talk to each other through a click, yet most en up fighting, arguing and misunderstanding each other.
The root of the word “Communication” comes from the latin “commun” and “ie” meaning “To make something common”. A definition which is precise for industries where instructions are being delivered from one person to another, but not a definition exact for what we understand as communication today.
“Thus, in a dialogue, each person does not attempt to make common certain ideas or items of information that are already known to him. Rather, it may be said that the two people are making something in common, i.e., creating something new together.”
He ends up proposing that this is due to a lack of awareness and lack of will for truly understanding the other person we adopt assumptions and poorly constructed opinions and end up tangling meaning in a weird way that leads to discussions and debates, not real dialogue. True dialogue leads into the process of thought behind assumptions, not merely on solving the assumptions themselves. Dialogue which is needed to create “the glue” that holds society together.
