Little Shop of Knowledge
Thought, like a virus, pervades us in a way that even without us knowing we’re connected. For this reason we shouldn’t try to fragment things, and we shouldn’t look for thought elsewhere than NOW. Thought is not found in time or place, it’s rather a concept that occurs always in the present.
When you look at something, say a glass of water, this glass of water is PRESENTED to you, immediately in your head you process this and when you think of the glass of water your thought will RE-PRESENT this glass of water, maybe not exactly as the glass is but merely as the image you stored of the glass in that precise moment. The same occurs with people and ideas, our re-presentations are our way of remembering them but we must be aware that they may end up twisted and incoherent to reality.
At first I was a little skeptical about this notion of shared meaning. Made me feel like a sheep for some reason, I definitely don’t want to think EXACTLY like everyone else. I see though that there could be shared meaning in certain points where I wouldn’t mind understanding the same concepts as everyone else. For example, if we all had shared meaning on what dialogue is, what respect and listening is, that would be great.
This whole concept of “the collective” scares me a little I must say.
