This chapter inquires into a problem of introspection that usually goes unnoticed our society. Our feelings and assumptions generate a sort of filter that organize information in a way for us (observers) to interpret the world around us. We believe that there is such a thing as an “individual” who may interpret this information in different ways, however we don’t realize that already are we filled with assumptions that made us gather such information in the first place. We look at out gatherings as if they were reality but the only person we’re observing as we look into the world is ourselves and the accumulated notions and assumptions we’ve gained throughout our lives.

This makes me wonder about many things. Is there such a thing as a self? (Apparently Bohm thinks it’s a mere illusion from what I’ve understood). Is reality real? Will we ever be able to step out of this perception?

“So the observer is what gathers: it selects and gathers the relevant information and organizes it into some meaning and picture.”
